Sports massage is the application of a variety of soft tissue techniques to enhance athletic performance. Sports massage includes pre-event, post-event, fine tuning or conditioning and rehabilitation.

Basically, massage can be an adjunct in three ways;

  1.  Enabling the athlete to recover from injury more rapidly and completely with less likelihood of chronic problems.
  2.  Reducing excessive muscle tone by maintaining muscles in their best state of relaxation, flexibility and nutrition.
  3.  Reducing muscle soreness, enabling muscles to recover more quickly and to train at a higher level, thus pushing back the fine line between maximum training and overtraining.
